By: Anne Braly

The Little Debbie Lookalike Contest is open to girls ages 4-8.

Do you think your daughter looks like Little Debbie? McKee Foods is celebrating the 50th birthday of the famous snack cakes by sponsoring the Little Debbie Look-alike Contest open to girls ages 4-8. Photos must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20. That gives you a week to e-mail them to www.littledebbie.com.

Ten finalists will receive an invitation to attend the Little Debbie 50th Anniversary event in Atlanta in February, where the Little Debbie Look-alike Contest winner will be chosen. And guess who's helping to select those final 10? Little Debbie herself, Debbie McKee-Fowler, granddaughter of McKee Foods founder O.D. McKee. Prizes include a $5,000 scholarship to the grand-prize winner, as well as her picture posted on certain Little Debbie packages.

It's time for Georgia food vendors to enter the Peach State's Flavor of Georgia contest. Open to all restaurant and food product manufacturers in the state, the contest is divided into several categories: barbecue and hot sauces; confections; dairy products; meat products; snack foods; and jams, jellies and sauces. All products must be market-ready.

Entries will be judged on flavor, best use of Georgia ingredients, Georgia theme, unique or innovative qualities, commercial appeal and originality. Winners will be announced March 16 as part of Georgia Ag Day. Gov. Sonny Perdue will present awards for top products plus a grand-prize winner. Winners also earn the right to have their products stamped with the 2010 Flavors of Georgia logo.

Flavor of Georgia is only a starting point for many of the category winners, contest director Sharon Kane stated in a news release. "Nearly two-thirds of last year's contestants saw an increase in their sales and business contacts following the contest," she said.

Competition entries will be accepted through Jan. 22. Semifinalists will be announced in February. Final judging will be March 15 at the Freight Depot in Atlanta. Register online at www.flavorofgeorgia.caes.uga.edu. For more information, call Ms. Kane at 706-542-9809 or e-mail spkane@uga.edu.

What a great way to showcase Georgia's excellent culinary developments.
