Local gymnasts win national contest

Two young gymnasts, Camille Reaux and Camille Moreau, decided to enter a national contest sponsored by he USA Gymnastics and Tyson.
The requirements were to create a dish that would give lots of energy before a long workout, the use of a Tyson product and the competitors had to be gymnasts.
When combining their ideas, the result was a unique creation entitled “Camille & Camille’s Tortilla Tornadoes”. The recipe was a combination of chicken, cream cheese, sour cream, pineapple, jalapeno and pistachios rolled up in a tortilla.
Their first step to success was when they received a call from USA Gymnastics informing them that their recipe had been selected as one of the three finalists.
The three finalists were now going to be flown to the U.S. Women’s National Team Training Center north of Houston to prepare their dish for the nationally known gymnastics training coach, Bela Karolyi.
Béla and his wife, Marta, Károlyi are bestknown for having trained Mary Lou Retton, Betty Okino, Kerri Strug, Teodora Ungureanu, Nadia Comaneci, Kim Zmeskal, Kristie Phillips and Dominique Moceanu.
In total, Károlyi has coached nine Olympic champions, 15 world champions, 16 European medalists and six U.S. national champions.
After tasting the three finalists dishes, the famous coach declared the ‘tortilla tornadoes’ as the top winning recipe.
Excited about being selected as the winners out of hundreds of entries, the girls were equally excited about meeting Korolyi and Nastia Luikin, an Olympic gold medalist winner from the USA Women’s Gymnastics team.
As the winning chefs, they will be featured in the next issue of USA Gymnastics magazine and in the Tyson Fitness Challenge mail out for 2011-2012, which is sent to all gymnastic facilities in the U.S.
Camille Reaux is the daughter of Jim and Caroline Reaux, and the granddaughter of Ronnie and Rayetta Meaux of Kaplan. She is a level five gymnast who is training for level six at Gymnastics Southwest in Broussard.
Camille Moreau is the daughter of Andre’ and Angie Moreau. She trains at A.J.’s in Carencro.
